Southern France - Provence - L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue - La Marisol

L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue - Overview

Provence! A region in the south of France that is known to many people all over the world. Provence evokes associations. The name Provence is associated in our minds with clichés, ideas and desires.

Geographically, Provence is not exactly defined. It stretches across the borders of several departments. L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is administratively located in the department of Vaucluse, which in turn belongs to the PACA region (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur).

We would like to invite you to L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Translated, this means: island on the Sorgue. The Sorgue is the river that characterises the town. L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is situated in the middle of five tributaries of the river Sorgue, which has its source in Fontaine de Vaucluse, 7 km away. The water is 13 degrees all year round. Numerous canals flow through and around the old town centre, giving the town the nickname "Venice of the Comtat". Old moss-covered mill wheels, which were once needed for the textile factories, still turn everywhere.

Today, the town of about 20,000 inhabitants is known above all as a marketplace and lively centre. It enjoys an international reputation as a centre for antiques. Many antique shops are located in the immediate vicinity of your holiday accommodation. Due to the location in the old town centre, you can reach them just as easily on foot as the entire old town and the pedestrian zone with charming boutiques and many shops. But artists and craftsmen have also made their home in the town and always provide exciting discoveries on the tours. On hot days, you can let your feet dangle in the river or find a shady spot under the trees or in front of a café. In the evening, stroll along the canals to your favourite restaurant.

The city is a gateway to the heartland of Provence. It is in this region that you can experience Provence with all your senses: Mediterranean climate, lavender, wine, delicious food, medieval villages, the singing of cicadas, olives, farmers' markets and much more. At the same time, the region is not overrun by mass tourism, at least it never seemed that way to us.

This bustling market town is served by a small train station and is the gateway for motorists to the beautiful villages of the Luberon to the south, the papal palaces and the TGV station of Avignon to the west and Mont Ventoux to the north. In the surrounding area you can kayak, cycle, hike, play tennis and golf. Marseille International Airport is 45 minutes away, and both the beaches of the Côte d'Azur and the ski slopes are just an hour's drive away. La Marisol benefits from private and secure parking nearby.

We invite you to explore the South of France and the heart of Provence.
